Those are some strange looking locknuts. Most of them are pretty thin where the threads are, with a hex head right at the top where the set screw is. Order a new set of polylocks from a reputable company like Crane or Comp Cams, and give those a try. Senior Member

those are like shims, the nuts go over the shim. Rocker arm goes on stud, then shim then the nut. Get it? Does the shim fit on the stud?

I see what looks like a stock rocker fulcrum ball in the pic...
Don't use that. It doesn't belong.
Look at the axle of the rocker. You'll notice that where the hole for the stud goes through it, one side is machined flat, and the other side isn't (it's still cylindrical). Turn all the axles to where the flat side is facing up. Put them on the studs. Put the nuts on top of those, without the stock rocker *****, with the hex on the nut upwards and outside of the rocker slot; the narrower round part of the nut against the rocker axle. Preset them to an approximate adjustment.
Adjust them the same way you would any rocker.... with the engine running, back each one off until it starts to clack, then tighten it until it just stops clacking, then tighten the allen to hold it in place. Do all 16 just like that, as quickly as possible, to minimize the mess. Shut the motor off, and loosen each allen screw, and tighten the nut an additional ½ turn. Tighten the allen, then tighten the nut (with a box wrench) and the allen together, to lock them in place.

Re: do i need new roller rocker nuts?
does anyone have a picture or diagram of what it will look like?
Look at your pic. There are 4 objects in it: one nut, two rocker arms, and one other object. The other object is the stock type rocker ball.
Leave that out. You don't need it. It doesn't belong. I'm not sure how to draw a pic or a diagram of dropping something in the garbage. I'll leave that to your imagination.
You also don't appear to need to be buying anything. Looks to me like you have everything you need; if of course, you have 14 more rockers and 15 more nuts besides the ones in your pic, and all 16 nuts have their set screws.

yeah my problem is that the nut i have won't fit between the slot on the top of the rocker arm. i was told it should slide into it.

Re: do i need new roller rocker nuts?
It's hard to tell about that from the pic... but if the nuts won't go in there, then they're clearly not the right thing for the rockers. Somebody sent you a bunch of mismatched garbage.
The rockers are kind of cheep generic aluminum ones anyway. Considering that aluminum ones are not wise for the street because they fatigue and eventually break from use, and those already have a certain amount of use on them, you won't even get their (already rather short) normal service life out of them before they start to break. They're not worth spending extra money on to put onto your car. Not even if you had got em for free.
Maybe a better idea would be to just send em back, get your money back, and start over, with new parts.
