What is causing my car to stall???
I 've got a very annoying problem: it doesnt always happen but my car is stalling without warning, it is like it just looses its spark for a few seconds then it comes back to life on its own, or I have to turn the key to restart.
There is no sputtering...the car runs strong and the revs drop quickley to 0, but you can still hear that the engine is freewheeling, and when it comes back there is a strong smell of gas.
Recently I noticed the voltmeter in the car was irratic so I replaced the voltage regulator and the problem stopped. What I'm afraid of is that the excess voltage fried something in the ignition and is now causing this stall situation. I dont know enough about the ignition to troubleshoot but I figure it has something to do with whatever triggers the spark and produces the signal for the tach.
Oh, by the way it is an '85 T/A with a HEI and a relatively new Accel Super coil and cap & rotor but the original distributor module.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming this didn't happen before the new coil, cap & rotor:
Recheck your electrical connections for the distributor. Most likely you've got something loose that is making intermittent contact.
Or, the stock module is losing it.
