383 question???

OKay Im looking to sell my bike and get a 83 Z28 with..

383 Stroker
Dart Heads 202 Intake
5 speed
3.73s
Holley 600 Carb
4pt cage
Frame tied.

Okay Now I called the guy and it has 3800KM on the drivetrain. He ran it this weekend and had some issues it was bugging down. I saw it run (didnt even know it was the car im looking at lol) It seemed to be hooking way too much for his RPM.

The best he ran was a 13.80? He said the carb is too small and it needs different slicks and it will go 12s.

Now I was wondering If I did buy this car. Could I swap everything from a 305 TPI onto it?? (injectors, fuel system intake etc) or should I go with a 650 Carb?

It just seems that it could run alot faster than it does.

BTW he is asking 5500 CDN the car sat for the last 2 or 3 month with no bits also. So I may be able to work on the price a bit.

Thanks Jay

Re: 383 question???

you could swap the tpi onto it if you wanted to make it extremely slow. A carb would be a better choice but 650 sounds a tad small for a 383..

Re: 383 question???

With out knowing the cam specs and compression ratio picking a carb is really a vrap shoot. From personal experiences with 383's a 750 dbl pump works real nice until you get into crazy cams, with high compression ratios
