Horsepower guesstimation
I was wondering where you guys think I stand as far as numbers go, for what I already have done to the car. It's an lo3 bored 30 over 3 angle valve job surface milled completely remanufactured. Mild cam 203/450, Now carbureted 600 holley vac sec 4160c, and an edelbrock 2104 performer intake. HEI vac adv dizzy, I also have a 10" 2500 stall converter and a transgo shift kit.Flowmaster 40 series muffler and cat delete.

Maybe 180 HP with the cam and muffler. The rest didn't do anything to improve power.

Re: Horsepower guesstimation
Guesses are completely useless and usually lead to hurt feelings when someone gives a low estimate (sometimes correctly) and the owner is over estimating the potential of his parts.
The only REAL solution is to take your car to a dyno, and then you'll know.

Yeah, I guess I have to get it to a dyno. 180 is all? ya think even with the block being bored over and everything?

Re: Horsepower guesstimation
what that extra 4 cubes? maybe 4-5HP
you either have to spend alot of hard earnd money or get a 4in. bore kit if you want to play with the 350s

Re: Horsepower guesstimation
I do have a pair of lt1 heads(cast iron), but there is only one intake option to go with that I know of if I do that.I guess if that's the only thing that I have to worry about, it might be worth it. The heads are already assembled, so there would be no expense other than doing the necessary head alterations.

Re: Horsepower guesstimation
cam sounds somewhat stock but probly better than a p-nut cam. most 305's with the stronger L98 cam 207/213 415/430" will make near 200whp..advertised 220-230hp depending on year.
i'm gonna say the 450 lift makes a big difference over stock and so is that performer intake. TPI doesnt flow alot but carbs tend to flow alot more even with basic manifolds. but for a 305 i'm not sure the TPI is that much of a handicap. i think with teh cam and valve job you stand a chance of picking up 15-20whp or so and probly puts you at near 200whp..just my guess

Re: Horsepower guesstimation
That's more along the lines that I was thinking, and maybe if I go ahead with the lt1 head swap my cam options will open up and it should be a bit more respectible.

Re: Horsepower guesstimation
Do you mean LT-1 (2nd Gen 1970) heads or LT1 (4th Gen).
LT1 (4th Gen) are reverse flow and won't work on a Gen 1 block.
LT-1 (2nd Gen) have large chambers designed to be used with pop-up pistons and will greatly reduce compression. Also, double check the valve size to make sure they don't have 2.02/1.60.
Aluminum Vette L98 heads (113) are a better choice for a 305, especially if you do a little porting to those heads. And there is a newer design whcih I just heard about (so I cannot confirm for sure). They are off the ZZ4 (463) casting. They are suppose to have better intake flow than the 113s (unported).

Re: Horsepower guesstimation
i havent heard about the flow number differences, but the ZZ4 heads are machined to fit larger springs and higher lifts than the 113's. so that is a nice bonus

The heads are from a 94 corvette, and I Know you can use them by plugging the water jackets and getting them decked.
