Can this hose be removed?

Alright folks, I have a question.....

The hose highlighted in this picture

Is it possible to just remove this hose, cap off the TB and the hole on the valve cover...and have no negative effects?

What's the purpose of this hose anyway?

Re: Can this hose be removed?

No, not really.

It feeds clean filtered "make-up" air to the crankcase from a point downstream of the MAF, to replace the air drawing into the engine by the PCV valve.

You need it there doing its job.

If you're one of those "looks" kind of guys as I'm guessing this is where this is going, seems like you can retain the function easily enough, but maybe get some kind of less rough-looking hose. Maybe the hard plastic kind or something.

Right.

Take a ride down to your local VatoZone or Advanced or PepBoys, and wander through the PCV aisle. See if anything presents itself to your eye.

Re: Can this hose be removed?

Can't use a breather.

ESPECIALLY not if you're a "looks" kind of guy.

Besides the fact that they always barf oil all over everything, they effectively create an air path that bypasses the MAF, and lets in unmetered air, which WILL cause all manner of idle and cruise driveability problems. Lots of people who have tried that can testify as to the results.

But if you're so into the "looks" of hardware that a big Exxon Valdez oil slick under your hood "looks" good as long as it's surrounded by chrome, and the "looks" of the hardware is more important than whether the car runs right, then the "breather" would be the perfect thing. Not me though.
