No, you can't really mix them.
But you can buy sets of 8 on eBay and elsewhere all day long, for about $40. This is the style to get. When they're that cheeep, "free" things that you can't use become much less significant.

Sure, if you can find 4 that have the same part #....
OTOH, I think you'll find that you can buy 8 used injectors for the same price as 4, and enjoy a whole lot less trouble. Remember, used injectors mostly come from junkyards. One car = one car, to a junkyard; meaning, a set of 8 injectors from one car = a set of 4 injectors from one car (one car's worth of injectors, in either case); meaning, the price will pretty much be the same.
Forget your friend's. They gain you NOTHING. Buy 8 injectors that all came from the same place and that are all the same part # and move on.

Re: 5.0 ho injectors & TPI
Yes people know that.
Yes they do.
Injectors are, for the most part, HIGHLY generic.
I have sets of Frod/Bosch 19#ers myself in a Cadillac 4.x motor, a Northstar (4.6L or some such), a Jeep 4.0L 6-cyl, and a Chrysler 318.
Note that the person selling those injectors on eBay lists TPI 305s in his list.
The only thing you'll need is a set of new O-rings.... which you'd need no matter what injectors you use.
Some silicone dielectric grease, if you have a packet of that, or some spray silicone lube, makes them all go together much easier.
The 4.6 Mustang injectors are identical, same part #, to those ones I pointed out on eBay from the same motor with some different sheet metal wrapped around it.... so a "good price" would be, about $40-45, plus some reasonable allowance for shipping; maybe $50ish total.
