Altenator/Charging issue

Ok heres whats going on now I have a 87 L98 and I dont like how it charges it started out when I would turn my lights on the voltmeter would drop to like 9 volts changed alt last weekend the guage stays at 11 or 12 volts without dropping but im pretty sure that it should say 14 or 15 volts has anyone else had this problem or could help me out on this thanks.

3rd gen gagues are notoriously inaccurate. Check your ACTUAL voltage with a DVOM and see how it compares to what your dash gague reads. I bet you're at 14.5V actual when the gague reads 12.
