Strange whining?
Strange whining?
Started hearing a strange whining noise from the rearward-part of the car about 2 weeks ago. First it only did it when i hit the brakes and was almost stopped, but my whole brake system is new so that's been ruled out. Then I thought it was the rear. But today it started whining really loud when the car was in park, so that ruled the rear out. Fuel pump? I read a couple articles about people having problems when the car was off, but mine only does it when it's running, and generally at very low speeds to not even moving. Any help appreciated. Marcus

Did you remember to get the kids out of the back seat? j/k
Seriously though, it could be the fuel pump, but that generally makes more of a "whirring" sound than a "whining" sound. Does it do it with the key in the Accessory or Run(car not running) positions? Your fuel pump will only run for a few seconds in the Run position if the car is not actually running, and it shouldn't run at all with the key in the Accessory position.
If it only does it while the engine is running, there is another possibility. It could be the rear speakers picking up some EMI from the alternator, especially if you are running any kind of system and have the amp power wires near the speaker wires.

Too much junk in the backseat for kids lol.
I actually ended up getting the pump replaced about 2 weeks ago. I got stuck in construction traffic and when I tried to take off if bogged out hardcore. I parked it for a week and limped it to my mechanic and got it done, and replaced with a higher output pump so I don't have issues with fuel supply when I do my build. Thanks for the input though.
