Whats a good combo?

Im new to building engines only put them together. I want a 350 that is good on the street but i can hold my own on the drag strip. Im thinking around 400hp or 450hp. I have thought about the speed pro powerforged pistons but dont know anything about the tops of the pistons which one should i get? Furthermore i want to get the mowtown 220 heads but dont know on the cam. I dont know who makes a good one but monday i just saw a comp cam break into 6 parts so trying to stay away from them. I was wondering about lunati and as for the manifold and carb im clueless. Need advice thank you.

The odds of an inexperienced person building a 400hp 350 and having it stay together are slim.
By the time you add the price of "good" heads to the price of a forged rotating assembly, intake, decent carb, decent ignition system you have spent more than an assembled crate engine would cost. I can do it in slow motion if you'd like.
If you're hell-bent on trying your hand at building a hi-po engine, there is a MSword document in this THREAD with lots of juicy combos.
EDIT: also the 220cc heads are too big for a 350 turning less than 7 grand...

Re: Whats a good combo?

400hp out of a 350 is actually pretty easy even for a novice. there are actually many good articles in hot rod car craft etc about how to do it. some people ebelieve you need a forged crank for this but its untrue. i know many people that are pushing 500hp on a stock crank. you will need to upgrade the rod bolts to some better apr units. and it would help to have the rotating assembly balanced. as for pistons i bought some speed pro forged units that are flat top with 2 valve reliefs that give a 10:1 with 64cc heads. as for the cam i wont use anything but a solid lifter cam it requires a little more maint. but with the new technology they can still be streetable. as for the brand issue of the cam being broken it was prob just a fluke or misuse. good luck with your project
