Hi,

I was looking for a vented gas cap at autoparts stores around my neigborhood, and believe it or not the ratio of idiots that work there is incredible.
I ask for a vented gas cap and pretty much every person that helped me gave me the replacement gas cap for my car. Even after I explain to them that they are different I am regarded with some weird looks.
Vented gas cap, if you got them do you have a part number or a size or anything that can help me get one.
I am not looking for the ones you twist to realease pressure. I am looking for the ones that automatically release pressure. They usually have certain pressure tolerances before they release.

Searched and searched and searched whole morning, no part numbers to find (or I might just be senile )

 

It was hanging next to the non-vented cap here at Checker.

It still twists on & off. It just doesn't go "whoosh" when you twist it off.

I did not mean the cap that unscrews from the filler neck. The cap that I have now can be unscrewed on its own without unscrewing it from the filler neck. All this does it reveals pressure without unscrewing the cap. However, this is not how the vented gas caps work. The vented gas caps don't unscrew on their own. I hope this makes sense. All they gave me was a cap that I can release pressure off myself without taking it out of the filler neck. however, once that cap twists on it still holds pressure.

 

The replacement for your car should be a vented one in '92. Vented caps have been factory equipment for like 30 years.

Ok, I'll try this again.

The cap I was given basically lets you release pressure without unscrewing the cap from the filler neck. To release pressure you rotate the cap that rotates itself to a certain point where it stops, and than if you twist it, it will start unscrewing from the filler neck.

So basically the cap twits in its own base without unlocking. Its there as a safety thing to release pressure before you unscrew the cap so too much "hot" pressure doesnt shoot in your face or sumtin'...

Did that make sense?

 

Do you want a "vented" cap, that allows air into the tank while installed? Like all caps before the emissions days?

Or, do you want something like some radiator caps, that you can vent when you want to vent the tank? I've never seen anything like that for fuel caps.

I got another one today, and its called. "Safety Vent cap". It comes with a freaking button you press to vent the fumes out. I am not kidding, thats how my other one worked. I am just looking for your typical cap that you were describing. However, nobody at any parts store can understand what I am trying to do. So I keep coming home with "Safety Vent Cap's"

All they do is hold pressure like a normal cap until you manually release it, Just like the radiator cap. Its f'n ridiculouos. What does one have to do to just get a vented gas cap???

 

All I need is the cap that wont hold pressure in the tank, so yes the vented cap. Anyone know the part number at checker.

Went to another autozone and I got a CST cap, 5791, it said it was vented in their system but when I put it on drove home, sure enough the pressure came out when I unscrewed it.

I am getting very irritated at this point.
