Need Advice
First off, this is a great site, i have been visiting here alot over the past few weeks. The info has helped alot!
Im new to chevy. My other cars were a 74 Mustang II 4 banger, a 79 Mustang 6 cylinder,80 Dodge Ram 318 Pickup and a 79 Thunderbird with a 302.
Tax Money came and i had to choose between a 6 cylinder 93 Mustang or this old V-8 Camaro.I decided it was time to give the bowtie a shot.
I bought a 87 305 LG4 Sport Coupe with supposedly 80,000 miles, but who knows, odometer was broken around 78000 and i question the rest of the readings, gonna need a new cluster and sending units probably.
The engine runs pretty well, seems pretty strong except for a ticking coming from the rear passenger side of the engine, I think its the number 8 cylinder.Im 90% positive its not a rod, sounds to high, near the valve cover and head. Ticking seems to go away around 3000 RPMs. Any Ideas?
So far i've replaced the tires, plugs, rotor and wires and done an oil change.
Other than the ticking the car is driveable,All light work ect and i've put about 100 miles on it so far.Starts right up and transmission does not seem to slip.
Its not too bad of a car, much more room and nicer than my mustangs were and i think im most likely the second owner. Its been repainted with a crappy gray paintjob and some idiot didnt know how to use a buffer so i have swirls to deal with.
Rust is very minimal, small spot on hood and behind passenger rear tire. But entire nose cover and fenders were replaced, car was gunmetal gray and i found spots of red paint on the fenders.Under the car looks pretty clean with some light surface rust, no holes! the unibody looks straight and does not look like it has been damaged in an accident.
Also the car doesnt drift or pull at speed, i took it to the top of the 85mph speedometer on the test drive.
The interior is original and the carpet is in fair shape, seats are rough, dash is cracked, headliner and some plastic trim is missing, looks like they were planning to replace the headliner.
The rear hatch electric pulldown was broken, thats a briliant design with the plastic motor btw, but i fixed that forever, trust me its a tight fit and will never move again.Pulldown Delete.
Looks like it has the factory Y pipe and Cat and new exhaust from there back, the brakes lines have been replaced as well. Its got a 10 bolt with 2.73 gears. I really want to swap rears with a 3.23 4th gen just to give it a little pep, Im going Junkyard hunting soon!
I only paid $1000 and Im going to use this car as a daily driver to work, its not gonna be a garage queen or racecar.
Im on a limited budget,I can only throw $30-$50 bucks a payday towards it, what suggestions do you have?

Re: Need Advice
check and verify that the tap isnt an exhaust leak. you may need to pull the valvecover and relash the valves on that cyl, see if it goes away. It could be anything from a rocker backing off to a flat cam or exhaust leak. I would spend the money on the creature comforts. If it runs good, and it needs to be a DD and not a racecar. Forget performance until it runs and looks great. Then deal with go fast.
