Rod Knock?
Hi all,
I usually hang out over at DIY PROM, and I have a mech. problem I think.
On cold starts my motor has a loud knock-knock-knock then goes away.
It also knocks lightly if you accelerate hard and then lift slightly (kind of no-load) then it raps as the rpm's drop. The motor has only about 7,000 miles over 2 years time since I rebuilt it. All my clearances were great when built.
The oil pressure is 30 hot idle and 60 WOT hot and more than that cold!
There is no metal or bearing in the oil change last night, I use Mobil 1 btw.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as this is only my 3rd complete motor build. My other motors are still running fine.....
Thanks, Randy

Re: Rod Knock?
Yes I did, my engine machine guy wants 3/4 to 1 turn down from zero, my shop manual says 1-1 1/2 turns (which seems excessive to me). I re-lashed them at the same time as my oil change (2 nights ago). Same noise.....
I just read the article about oil filters. My opinion is that my oil is draining back somehow (cheap orange filters) and now my new bearings are worn because of lack of oil on startup. I have new bearings in hand and really hate to dis-assemble everything!
