Books?

I don't have a clue where to put this, but what books would you suggest for the backyard mechanic working on a third gen? Body work is something I am going to do a lot of, so books about that count too. I've looked around, but I'm still not sure whats good and whats not!

thanks!

Re: Books?

im gonna assume that you have either a haynes or a chilton for your specific car because that is a good piece of lit to have for anycar you plan on working on. the best would be if you could get your hands on the gm factory manual. For specific books like body work or ac work or anything like that i know Autozone has a bunch of books that cover things like that

Re: Books?

im a personal fan of shop manuals but chiltons and haynes books are good too, it depends on what your looking for though , theres a few good ones on building SBC's on a budget and doing it correctly etc, as far as body work you cant read on that and be good, it takes practice, or an inate skill for it.

Re: Books?

Helm. That's the factory manual for the car. Much better than a haynes or chilton (I have all three, Helm is twice as thick and much more coverage). That's car specific.
If you want engine specific, look for any SBC book by david vizard. How to rebuild your SBC and hot rodding your SBC on a budget are both great.

Re: Books?

i got a few little books that give some basic overviews on parts and how to assemble/diassemble things.

Stuff like How to build big inch small blocks, cams and valvetrain, Rebuilding the small block chevy, etc. all good things to reference too

The main shop manuals tho are nice for most all repairs for the car
