new motor, need brackets

engine builder says my block is somewhere around mid to early 80's and my heads are canfield, when buying brackets and such for this new 383, what do i look for, will any v8 chev bracket work or should i still be looking for 92 camaro parts only. my old motor was a v6 if your wondering why i don't have anything to try to swap over, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: new motor, need brackets

First I guess it all depends on which brackets you are talking about.
The alternator, power steering, etc brackets, or motor mount brackets.

When I build my 383, I went from a 1985 305 TPI to a 1977 350 base for the 383.
Everything swapped over just fine.

But from a v6 to a v8, I would do this.
Find a 3rd gen with a v8 in a junkyard and buy all the brackets off of it.
A 305 should work.
Then by a new set of motor mounts, they are pretty cheep.
Swap it all over and you should be set.

The hardest part would be finding a 3rd gen v8 in a junkyard with a motor still in it.
I know there are none around where I live.

I've got a set of '82 brackets & pulleys available. You'll have to use '82 style accessories like water pump and alternator.

Already sold the engine-side motor mounts. Sorry.

Re: new motor, need brackets

i got the casting numbers off the block-3970014 and the stamped date is J13 76 so being that yours is a 77 i can't imagine mine not bolting up if yours did. the kind of things i'm looking for are altenator and power steering brackets, dipstick, etc. but i dont want those big ugly brackets, i guess i need to save up and get some march serpentine brackets, pulleys and such, sure would make it look a lot better. is there anything that i should steer clear of that yall have had problems with when buying aftermarket brackets, pulleys, etc for the front of the motor. oh and i'm going with an electric water pump if that makes a difference.

With regard to mounting accessories, all blocks have the same mount holes, regardless of year. So, that isn't the issue.

The issue is what your heads have. Most likely, they're okay.

Never heard complaints about March, but I've never had them, either.
