CALLING ALL 3rd GEN EXPERTS

First off thanks for reading this, because your helping me more than the Haynes Manual and the previous owner of my Camaro.

Ok, I rode by some apartments and noticed this Black 1992 RS Camaro from the road. It was for sale for $800 (chips on the paint from the original White exterior i'm guessing; but NO body damage/dents. The interior was crappy except an excellent headliner, go figure.

So I knew I had work to do, but that shouldn't matter when it came down to the car running (which the problem is the car starts half the time, the other half it gives a whole bunch of fast "clicks", or if not the engin will crank so many times without "firing up". The guy who owned it took awful care of the car. He didn't give two ***** about the thing. And thats why I need help. Here are the things I need help on.

1) I suspect he has some parts missing out of the engine. For example, theres some major empty space between the battery and engine and radiator. Also theres an empty hole at the front of my engine about 3 inches from what appears to be a sensor. I suspect something to be here because I can make out old gasket sealer. Also I have several unplugged wires inside that are not tied down. But I have no clue whats the "bare minimum" at which a car can be stripped to and still be drivable.

2) THE HOOD WON'T LATCH. I'm talking both the latch and the one on the hood. Whenever I close the thing the left side of the hood goes down, the right side stays a little up, but the hood looks aligned. Also the dampers work properly.

I can't stand why people have something they can't afford to take care of. These people should not be aloud in our country if they get an american car and f*&k it up. Im sorry this isn't me, but you can tell i'm frustrated. I know it takes time and effort but the Haynes Manual having 2 pictures for every 10 directions is complete B/S. I am a visual person and thats why I need to see what the engine should look like.

Please I have 3 pictures of my engine set up. If you could email me admwoodrd@gmail.com and I will send the pics. ALL INFO IS MUCH APPRECIATED.

It's hard to say without seeing any pictures, which you should go ahead and post, but that empty space in front of the radiator could just be a filler cover (plastic piece found on non-TPI cars as TPI uses a dual-snorkle that covers that area). A simple tune up and re-timing of the car could do wonders... Definitely sounds fixable.

Re: CALLING ALL 3rd GEN EXPERTS

Sorry guys I had no clue you could attach them from your computer.

Pic 1 - The part thats on the left side of the engine/carb. I have a hose that looks like a radiator hose but it only comes out of the firewall about 5 in.

Pic 2 - A part that screws into the empty hole on the engines front?

Pic 3 - This wire is taped with the starter wires, but the blue plastic appears to have been melted.

Re: CALLING ALL 3rd GEN EXPERTS

Pic 1 That hose should go to a vacuum actuated diverter valve for the heater core to control heat in the car. There should be 3 hoses that come together at the valve and one vac line.

Pic 2 looks alright except you said this is a 92 RS that water neck looks wrong I have a 91 RS and there were sensors 1 or 2 can't remember( swapped to TPI) which.

Pic 3 looks like it is the fan temp sensor wire. There should be a sensor sticking out betweenthe 6 and 8 cyl on that side of the motor. Its right above the starter and usually is accessed from under the car, that may be what that wire is for.

Hope this helps And if you like i can try to get you a pic of the diverer valve, I will be working on my car tonight.

Also The first thing you should do is a good tune up Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filter, oil change. maybe a flush and fill on the radiator, and try to pull some codes down from the ecm. That haynes manual should tell you how to do this with a paper clip and also list them otherwise just do a forum search and you should find the procedure and codes.
also more pics of the prob areas will help if you have anymore.

Sorry to see you really got yourself into a birds nest there but thats what this sight is for to help eachother out good luck and keep us posted
