EGR cover?
EGR cover?
hey i just got an 84 Z28 and i there is no EGR hose or cover on my stock exhaust manifold. is there any benefit to putting the hose on or would it just be easier to cap it off. also where would i be able to get a cap?
thanks in advance for your help,

Welcome to thirdgen.org.
The EGR isn't attached to the exhaust manifold. It's on the intake manifold.
What you might be referring to is the thermovac hot air system. In cold weather, it will help eliminate an off-idle stumble while the engine is warming up.

Re: EGR cover?
I'm not sure what you mean. The EGR system runs thru the intake manifold, not the exhaust manifold. Do you mean the AIR pump system? The AIR pump puts fresh air into the exhaust manifolds and the cat thru a system of metal and rubber lines.

The hose to the snorkel is not EGR or A.I.R., it is the thermovac system I mentioned.
If the smoke is being caused by oil leaking from the valve covers onto the exhaust manifolds, then you should change the valve cover gaskets (most likely - they may just be a little loose).

Re: EGR cover?
You also might want to check if the PCV valve is in good working conditon and not stuck closed.
