Fuel Delivery Problem?

Engine: 350 in the TA, 489 in 71,454 truck
Fuel Delivery Problem?
Okay this is the second time that my 87 TPI Firebird has done this to me. It will all of a sudden quit and smell heavily of fuel. Truthfully it acts like it's vapor locked. It won't start for anything. However if you pop the hood and take a screwdriver out and release the pressure behind the pressure check valve gasoline sprays out (of course) and all of a sudden the car starts and runs like nothing happened. Of course when this happens I don't have a pressure gauge with me and when I get home and check it everything is fine. Any ideas?
