Oil pressure sender/switch. Already searched forum.

88 camaro. 92-ish caprice 305 tbi.

I have located the sender that is right above the oil pan. I have two wires coming from it going into a main loom, orange in color.

I also have a mystery electronic sender mounted directly into the drivers side of my oil pan right about in the middle of the sump. Emerging from the connector is a black wire and a tan wire, which my haynes manual tells me is either an oil pressure switch, or sender.

My oil pressure gauge is always pegged.

I have no problems purchasing a replacement sender for the dual-wired sender above the oil pan, but what is this other sender in the oil pan?

I have already spliced the black ground coming from the oil pan sender to a decent ground. Now i am left to figure out what to do with this tan wire.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

the sender in the sump area would probably be the low oil sensor.

You can put an oil press sender in the stock area of our cars, the bell looking one that sits right behind the distributor. You will need to get an elbow fitting though since the the hole in the block is straight down and there is no space to screw the oil press sender right into that hole.

cool cool thats what i was thinking

as far as getting one of those bell type senders, i would much rather just stick to replacing the style that is currently there... plus considering how much room i would have to work with behind the distributor it is probably easier just to replace the original one.

agree?

Ya, the current one is much easier to get to, so I would probably stick to that one.

Most parts stores sell a special oil pressure sending unit socket for GM cars. That sending unit is a major PITA to get off without the extra long socket. You can always break off the black plastic part of the old one to remove it with a regular socket, but you really need the special socket for installing the new one.

Yeah, but there is no room to put the special socket onto the sensor. I can't get the damn socket on. How did you get yours on? Mine is an 89, sensor right above the oil filter.
