Do casting numbers describe engine type
What I mean is, let's say you have a 305 block in a '83 Camaro. Can you tell by the casting number if it's an L69 vs LU5?
They both use the same desplacement block with the same compression ratio. The difference being one has a carburated intake and the other CFI.
Just curious.

Thanks. I didn't think so, but just wanted to be 100% sure.

The serial number stamped in the block might. I don't know if they were putting the last digits of the VIN on the block back then or not, but if they match the VIN on the car, the rest of the VIN on the car will tell you.
