i need education

whats up everyone,
so I posted a few days ago about breaking my speedometer needle, today i bought a parts car, the only difference is mine is an 89, parts car is a year or two older (the owner didnt know the year, I dont know camaros enough to tell)and the speedo has an 85 mph face, which i want to exchange for my original.heres my questionnce the speedo assembly is removed, how do I seperate the needle from the assembly so I can remove the face?

I don't full understand. Why do you wish swap faces (and trying to remove the needle will more than likely break it--they are after all 20+ years old)? You can't swap faces, by the way, and have the speedo read correctly unless they are the same: 85, 110, or 140.

Re: i need education

yea just replace the whole speedometer, each gauge comes out in a section. Swapping needles will just end up with you throwing something or breaking something.

Be sure you got the 85, 110, or 140 like James said.

Re: i need education

the reason behind wanting to swap faces is that the car had a 140mph face(i know, its not the right one for my v6 anyways) but I want it in the car regardless for later on when I swap motors. the one I have off the parts car is an 85 mph, which I dont want. I understand its not accurate and I probably have the wrong speedometer in there anyways, thats not the point-i just want to know how to seperate the needle. how do you do white face gauge kits without removing needles?

Re: i need education

two small flat head screwdrivers, use one as a wedge and the other as a lever, odds are the 20 year old plastic wont hold out.

I've heard that the needle can be pried off with a fork. The chance of breaking the 20+ year old plastic needle, however, and/or damaging the metal piece that is attached to is 50/50. Proceed at your own peril. Good luck.
