help! need valve springs.
using D port style aluminum heads. 1.5 and 1.94 valves.
stock style valves for the 90 corvette with L98 and aluminum heads.
pistons in my motor are quoted to be 10.5:1.
i recently bent 2 valves and broke 4 springs. the worst part is i wasnt even beating on it. (i think they springs let go from fatigue)
i need help selecting springs that can handle daily driving and dozens of track passes in the summer.
my cam is a 502/512 lift.
Duration is 284/292
i need springs that can handle the power.
also if anyone feels that i should upgrade anything else recommendations are welcome.(remember the heads are completly stock!)
i want to make more power, if there is a way to increase compression with springs and maybe other valvetrain components then i am open to information.
let me know ASAP im want the heads at the shop by next friday.

Re: help! need valve springs.
there may be other reasons but the most obvious would be fatigue especially if the valvetrain broke when barely on the pedal.

Check the valvetrain tolerances and see if you have problems.

Re: help! need valve springs.
Do stock springs handle that much lift???? Were they aftermarket???
If you were going into coil bind continously they would eventually fail....
I have Comp Cams 986 springs on a pair of 305 S/R Torquers in the basement....
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
They have an installed height of 1.750" and Coil bind at 1.150" for a total lift capacity of .550" with your .050" safety zone heheh
I'm sure that there are more choices out there just gotta search..... go to Summit, Jegs etc
Watch this.....

ps you increase your compression ratio by changing your pistons (ie flat-tops), by decking your block or heads, or by going with a thinner head gaskets

I used Manley springs and retainers on my Corvette heads. Part number 22410-16 for the springs and 23652-16 for the retainers. I'd also recommend part number 42106-16 3/8" screw-in studs since you're running more than .500" lift.
