oil leak

had a tranny leak a few weeks ago from the speedo cable mount and now the wet spot under my car is back. i put her up on jack stands and noticed it dripping from on top around where the tranny meets the motor kinda in the same spot where the oil filter is. i wanted to know if anyone knows what part of the engine has oil flowing through it that might leak.

Re: oil leak

Sorry, but that sounds like the front seal is leaking. The trans has to come out to replace it (hence the sorry part).

If it's dripping from on top, that's not a transmission front seal leak.

The valve cover and intake manifold are known leakers from up there. Also the oil pressure sending unit, if it's behind the intake manifold.

I assumed it was transmission fluid (red). If it's oil, these are the prime candidates.

Re: oil leak

the tranny leak was back where the speedometer cable screws onto the tranny because the threads were ruined. fixed that with new speedo cable. it is an oil leak because i had to add more oil recently and its black not red. it could be the oil pressure sending unit because today when i took it for a ride the oil gauge was reading a lower number than usual. the needle sits around 30 at idle and today it read lower 20s which it has never gone. ill try to locate a more exact location and post where its coming from but it is coming from up high in the engine compartment.

Re: oil leak

running a 350 tpi with 5sp manual transmission. 87 irocs with a 350 were not made with a 5sp tranny. swapped out auto for manual in this car no point in having a sports car with an automatic takes the thrill out of driving it

Camaros used cable driven speedometers from '82-89. Firebirds got electronic speedometers in '86 but the idiot light clusters continued to use the cable drive.
