Different Fuel Pump?

Working on my engine swap and I came across a little problem of course. The fuel pump on the 350 engine there is only two lines going into it. On my 305 there is 3 lines two going into and one going out up to the carb. Why is there two lines running from the tank to the fuel pump on the engine? I will probably have to use my fuel pump on the 305 and put it on the 350 right since there are three lines altogether and not just two?
Probably a stupid question but I was just wondering?

Re: Different Fuel Pump?

The third line is for a return line, you dont have to use it just block it off, or fuel will siphon out of it, and just use the two that you need. get under the car and follow the lines to know witch one you need, the one you need from the tank will be where the fuel filter is located on the line, and also you will have to change fuel filters a fuel injected fuel filter will not work on a carbuerated application, just get a clear plastic one from your local parts stor and put it on with some rubber hose and clamps!
hope this helps

Re: Different Fuel Pump?

Ok thats what I thought just needed to know for sure. So I will just block it off then run a tube from my fuel line to the fuel pump on the block then I already have a clear fuel filter going from the fuel pump up to my carb.
Thanks for responding. Hopefully my clutch and gaskets came in today so I can get those all done and the engine in.

I will be running a eldebrock carb. with a non computer controlled disty. with a vacuum advance because they are already setup on the motor and work just fine. So I was just going to pull my computer out and run primitive just wondering if you know exatcly where it is. I know it's somewhere underneath the passenger dash but don't know what exatcly to look for. any suggestions?
