HELP PLEASE!!!!
Anyone no what signs would be associated with a flex plate going out.I have been experiencing a knock coming from the extreme rear of the engine and
seems to be coming from the flex plate area. Starts out with a rattle but then moves to a heavier knock. I looked under the car and cant see any fractures in the plate. I am almost certain its not a rod or anything major internaly. Is this noise a sign of a cracked or out of balanceflex plate, and if out of balance what can cause this to just happen out of the blue?
It doesnt seem to do it while under acceleration, More prominent at idle and de celeration. The oil pressure is at 30 psi give or take at idle.Car is an 91 RS 5.0 TBI w/700r4. Also before this happened i replaced the transmission, But never messed with the flexplate. This has been going on for almost 2 months now
thanks

Re: HELP PLEASE!!!!
Being a big believer in starting with the simple stuff first, I'd start with making sure none of the torque converter bolts have backed out, since you just recently replaced the transmission.

Well I put the Car in the air today and checked the torque converter bolts. they all were as tight as could be. So i guess this weekend the tranny will come back out. i was hoping to avoid this as i just have so much going on!!! thanks for the second opinion!!

Re: HELP PLEASE!!!!
No, Didnt think to check those. Have you ever seen them loose to where it sounds like gravel in a clothes dryer? I am certain the the bellhousing is butted up tight to the block...As far as every bolt being tight i know they were when i put it in. ill Re-check those before i remove the tranny. thanks.
Re: HELP PLEASE!!!!
When a transmission is separated form the block, upon reasembly you wanna make sure you put a dab of lock-tite on the torque convertor bolts to prevent them from backing up. Also check the flexplate - to - crank falnge bolts those might have come loose (torque them down if need be). Make sure all linkages are ok. If the knock continues you might wanna pull the pan and see if you snapped a valve spring in the tranny.
