Starter issues.

The car is an 84 z28, 5 speed. It all of a sudden stopped starting the other day. I can push start it and jump it from the solenoid. When I turn the key to the start position all the guages come on, temp goes to the right, volts come up, the works. Everything electrical on the interior works. What could be causing it to not start. It has three leads, the batt to the center terminal, another smaller lead that runs to the center terminal and a lead to the S terminal. Could it be the ignition switch?

Re: Starter issues.

Re: Starter issues.

I hear nothing but the click from my clutch and the little buzzer sound from when I have it in the turn over position. The leads are wrench tight.

Check the voltage getting to the starter through the small wire when the ignition is in the start condition. If it is zero, you've got a problem somewhere in the line, either wiring, connector(s), ignition switch, neutral/clutch safety switch.

If you get some voltage but it's low, same train. I had that issue and solved it by installing a remote solenoid (really just a high capacity relay).
