just looking to see what you guys think of this combo on my 83 LG4 5-speed. 601 heads, xe268,maybe some 1.6 rockers?, holly contender intake(got it for $10), 650 edelbrock. already got long tubes y pipe with a cat back. lookin for a regularly (not every day) driven car that's not a stranger to the track. any input recomedations greatly appreciated.
thanks,

1.6 rockers aren't really needed. And, if the valve guides haven't been cut for more valve travel, you'll exceed the stock travel available with the XE268. Can we assume you're putting on new valve springs? Have the heads been ported? 1.94" intake valves?
I'm no fan of the Performer carbs. Just no match for a simple Holley double pumper. Quadruple that with a T5 tranny - double pumper is the way to go.
Stock dished pistons? Compression will be a little low for the cam. 601's typically have slightly smaller chambers than 416's. But, be sure to use a steel shim head gasket.
It'll be a fun combo. Just be careful launching and shifting at the track with that T5.

Re: what do you guys think?
the heads are stock other than a very light polish no re material was removed. the springs are ganna be changed with the cam. stock dished pistons are staying do to money. lol as far as the carb goes it was free and probibly temporary being a full time student makes money a little tight some times. would you have a recomendation for the cam?
