Zero Spark??
One morning I went out to start my car, and when I tried it would just crank but not turn over. I wasn't getting any spark at all
. It started the day before and many before that. I just put on a new distributor cap, module, rotor, and wire harness. I thought I screwed something up while installing something
. I have a spare distributor and after I put that on I still had the same problem
. I checked the spark plugs and even changed over the wires with some spare ones. The knock sensor has some damage to it when I was putting on my headers
. It may be having some connection problems. could this cause the lack of spark??
Some background info that you need to know:
its a swapped 350
HEI PerTronix Flame-Throwerdistributor
600 cfm Edelbrock performer carb

Re: Zero Spark??
No, the knock sensor won't keep it from firing. If you swapped the dist, that only leaves the wiring and the ECM. You might want to clean and tighten the grounds on the back of the passenger head and make sure your ECM has power. Does the CEL light come on when you turn on the ignition?

Re: Zero Spark??
when I did the engine swap i tore out the ECM, so it is no longer computer controlled. I hooked up a voltmeter to check if i was getting power to the distributor itself and it is getting power. I'm stumped

Re: Zero Spark??
Still looking for any suggestions or input... any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
I went out today and found that the timing was way off. I'm not sure how that happened, but it should get spark through the wires still right??
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Zero Spark??
If the timing is too far off you will be sending spark to the wrong locations at the wrong time. If your timing is suspect which sounds like a probable cause, start fresh with TDC. You didnt mention the ignition coil, I assumed only the distributor was checked and replaced. GL

Yeah the coil is new, and I will be checking to see if it was the timing tomorrow when my battery charges back up. thanks for the input

Re: Zero Spark??
Yeah I used the old coil that I had on before that worked. I reset the timing today and still nothing... maybe both pickup coils are gone. very unlikely but who knows. How are some of the ways you can damage the pickup coil other then it just shorting out?? maybe while installing the modules I did something... I'm going to setup the voltmeter today to test EVERYTHING again. I hope I just missed something before.
