trying to get a h.p. range ??
trying to get a h.p. range ??
i have a 350 bored .060,with stock style pistons, and stock crank, and rods.on top is a set of 416 h.0. heads with the stock tpi setup from 86 iroc. cam is .420/.443 hyd lift, double roller timing.and chipped to meet all these specs.
im in the process of painting it ,and motor is still out of car .
what im getting at is what h.p. might this motor make?
and yes a quick, cheap, bump for compression with the 5.0 heads.
any ideas?

need more info on the cam (duration, LCA, etc), preferably the manufacturer's part ##.
desktop dyno says about 220-275 hp, optimally tuned, with a mild cam. Atilla's response is more realistic for backyard tuning. can't help ya further without more specs.
engine carb or tpi? exhaust in the vehicle?

a .420/.443 cam is 204/214 at .050", on either a 110 or more likely 112 lobe sep.
Re: trying to get a h.p. range ??
engine is tpi and shorty header with true dual exhaust 2 1/4 and flowmasters computer is chipped for the cam and hotter fuel and timing curv.no converter. atilla is dead on with the cam.heads are machined to 64cc.

I'm still feeling you're under 250. It seems like a decent combo that should drive well enough.
Re: trying to get a h.p. range ??
i have a set of 191 heads, but intake wont bolt up ,i wonder if a person can have the two machined to work!ive seen intake angle spacers ,but i think intake holes have to be drilled out a lil.
another ? is if my 86 305 was 195hp ,and my 85 305 is 214hp both irocs ,i guess i shouldive just bored them out and cammed them up ?

Re: trying to get a h.p. range ??
once you get the fuel delivery matched to what the 350 wants, the 350 has a huge torque advantage. It's just that running near-stock TPI is no way to get big HP. Whatever you're wanting, we can get you there, but this is the first indication you've given that you might be unhappy with what you have.
Re: trying to get a h.p. range ??
i put a factory intake with edlbrk 600cfm carb on a 85 tpi motor ,in my wifes 82 TA.and it runs somwhat decent.for some reson it gets excellent gas milage.it has 3.42 rear.around 21 ish mpg.the intke came off the TA 305 and the center plane has been taken out and ported ,almost like a torker.could that be the reson, and is has a T5 also.

i love the tpi setup dont know y.i ran both of our cars against each other,it was know match tpi responce is rediculus compared to 4 bl, at the time i had all factory 86 iroc motor5.0 with T5 and 2.77 gears, and hers 82 TA with a 85 tpi motor 4bl and T5 with 3.42rear.the iroc whipped the TA.

Re: trying to get a h.p. range ??
TPI builds alot of torque, especially between 2500-3500 rpm, because of the length of the intake runners. All stock TPIs, AFAIK, had the same runner tube diameter and 48mm TB size. 21 mpg is not excellent, it's well below what you should expect. And you should never do that mod to that intake. The '85 TPI long block assembly is identical to the '85 L69 long block assembly.
