91 350 tbi seized smog pump
I bought a 91 RS w/a 350 swap. It's a tbi from I'm guessing 85, haven't had the chance to read any codes off it yet.
Car idles, accelerates fine. I started hearing a noice that sounded like a piece of metal being thrown around on metal fanblades. The sound, at first, was not related to rpms. Then after a day the sound did increase with rpms
Replaced belt tensioner w/pulley but the noise persisted. I'm thinking it could be something up in the ac compressor?
I started it today and -kaboom- it sounded like the compressor blew. It roared, or I can describe it as a 'roaring' unhealthy vacuum sound lol. I noticed a bit of smoke. Then the 'roaring' turned into a loud squealing within 30 seconds.
When I got the hood up the smoke had cleared. Also, I noticed a bit of coolant had trickled from the seam of the main water hose...which concerns me lol.
I tried to start it back up after about 5 minutes. It didn't want to turn over the first few and sounded labored trying. Finally fired up and idled like normal, along with the squealing. It seems to be coming from the compressor but I can't pinpoint it.
Would the pulley freeze and cause the belt to squeal, if that was in fact what happened?
Think I'm on the right path with the compressor, or any ideas what else it could be?
Thanks!!!
Update: Smog pump seized.
Update: So here's what I did guys. I bypassed the smog pump. This thread helped me: https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine
After removing the pulley the smog pump was still in the way of the belt. I rerouted it using a 966 instead of a 968. It was slightly too long. Fired right up!
