more questions about timing...

hey im still trying to get my timing right. I'm pretty sure it should be set at 6 degrees is that right?? I have a picture that i can show where it is lined up at but i cant figure out how to upload an image. If your looking from the front of the car, it is the third notch to the left of the big notch , which i think is tdc. i could be wrong. it still runs like crap they go by 2 degrees at a time right?

Stock carb set-up, right?

Each "mark" represents 2 degrees. The first "point" is 4 degrees, the first "valley" is 6 degrees. After that each "point" is another 4 degrees (8, 12, etc).

How exactly is it running? Smooth but with no power? Missing? Backfiring?

When was the last tune-up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, etc.)?

Re: more questions about timing...

well, its running a little rough, no power at all, until maybe midway through 3rd, but then it just gets slow again. it feels like its a 6 cylinder or maybe even worse. I just did an oil change, drained and refilled the transmission fluid, i didn't change the plugs but i took them all out and cleaned them...like 3 times within the last week or two, just got the new distributor about a month ago, and got brand new 8mm plug wires last night., and yeah its the stock 4 barrel carb. I know i need to clean my air filter, but that's not whats causing it because i tried taking it for a test drive without the filter, and it didn't make much of a difference.

What "new" distributor did you put in?

Is your SES light coming on?

Re: more questions about timing...

Its just a duralast gold from autozone, and if you mean the check engine light, then yes. its stuck on, i accidently broke it i left one of those test keys and forgot it was in there. i turned it on and ever since then, the light wont go off or flash codes. i already tried unhooking the battery cables. but this happened along time ago and it ran fine until now.
