running like ****
I have a fresh 383 and i can not get this thing running good to save my life. It has a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb on it. I thought it was in the timing, so i go a good timing light and went at it. I set it to 38 advanced all in at 2800 and it was stuttering, popping, and stalling out the second i let the clutch out. I put a vacuum guage to the carb and its showing either a vacuum leak or late timing. So i got a rebuild kit for my carb and guess what? same thing. I know there isnt a vaccum leak at the manifold, its sealed perfectly. So i guess its in the timing. I really need some help. Im about to crush this peice of junk.

How much base timing do you have? How did you set the idle mixture?

You need to tow your car to someone who knows what they are doing ASAP.
You've R&R'd your distributor, probably incorrectly. You've spewed coolant under your hood into who knows what, then claim to have ignition AND carburetor problems. You have what? 2 bolts holding on one of your headers? You claim to have rebuilt a carburetor that you call crap and probably have no clue how to work with properly. You've made post after post of one problem after another, all concerning a simple Chevy smallblock with a carburetor and a distributor.
Seriously you need to quit now, let a competent mechanic handle it, and hope that you haven't seriously damaged anything so far.
Anyone who tries to give you helpful advice online at this point is just asking for trouble.

Boys, boys, let's play nice now, okay?
Ilike2stroke383, obviously you're typing things the Board automatically filters. Enough already.
Start with the basics. Do you know your harmonic damper and timing tab are of the same type? There are at least two different configurations out there.
