Code 44

Hi guys,

1988 5.7 TPI Iroc Z

I'm in the UK and I get a code 44 most of the time after about 5 minutes of driving. When I'm stopped at a red light the ses light goes off but when I get back up to cruising speed the ses light comes back on again. Sometimes it won't come on at all?? Performance is good, no hesitation, misfiring etc.

I'll change the fuel filter this weekend and buy a fuel pressure tester and check for the obvious melted wire / leaks etc. It just drives me mad that its so random and intermittent. I like things to either work or break lol.

Any ideas or shall I just work through the possibilites one by one?

Re: Code 44

I haven't but i've not owned the car for long, pervious owner had pulled the ses bulb so must have been doing it for a while. It had a new MAF sensor a couple of years ago. It's completely stock with it's air pump and egr etc so at least i'm not trying to undo anything a previous owner could have done to cause it?

Re: Code 44

you seem to know what to do already. check fuel pressure, fuel filter, vac leaks. wouldn't hurt to clean the maf with some electrical cleaner. you can remove an 02 sensor and see if its white and powdery.

Re: Code 44

So if it's white and powdery that means it's running lean?
