Car doesn't want to start...

Yesterday I got my car running and running good. Today i go to adjust my TV cable for the tranny and doing the WOT to closed numerous times was dumping fuel down the intake.

So i let the car set for about 4 or 5 hours and cranking it every so often so help push what fuel was being sucked in out the exhaust as mush as possible. Still no sputter or any sign of the wanting to start. The timing was all adjusted to 10* advance yesterday and was good when shut off.

After getting frustrated i decided to pull the plugs to get a look at them, they were all wet so i dried them off then placed back in. Well it still did not want to start so i pulled the #1 and #2 plugs and they seemed to be arcing between the electrode and the threads not the prong at the end so i checked the gap and they were .026 so i adjusted and put them back in.

I know it has good compression on all cylinders but I dont seem to know why it is acting up all of a sudden. It was starting up great yesterday but today it wont even act like it wants to start. This has me stumped.

Thanks for the help,
Chas

Re: Car doesn't want to start...

Thats what i was thinking. Also i dont know if this would have anything to do with my issue.

But when i was trying to time the engine my light would work some times but not others like the plug would fire then not...I'm thinking it has something to do with the same reason that its not starting.

Re: Car doesn't want to start...

Ok so i replaced all the plugs with stock AC Delcos and no difference in starting. I checked the gap and they were all .035 before i put them in. #1 and #3 plugs both had spark.

Should I pull the plugs and check to make sure they all have spark?

The car is getting fuel but not starting. I'm thinking it has something to do with my timing...

Thanks, Chas

haha thanks, The worst is my fiancee's grand father has a 65 chevelle that has original 5800 miles (no i didn't forget a zero) all matching numbers and has no problems at all and out of those 5800 miles 1000 are from the 1/4 mile...But to make a long story short my fiancee asks "is your car ever going to be like my grandpas and just start whenever you want it too?" She means well...

I just need to get this thing running! haha

Re: Car doesn't want to start...

I would check the timing. Does it backfire or anything?

Re: Car doesn't want to start...

did you prep the car to set the base timing? Air, Fuel, Spark is all you need.. I'm starting to believe timing may be off... mark your current timing by using some whiteout on your distributor cap and a fixed point, then I would turn the cap and see if you get life...

Re: Car doesn't want to start...

I managed to get the car to start. In the process of checking the distributor wires on the cap i managed to knock off one of the vacuum lines that connect to the master cylinder for my brakes and the engine was just sucking straight air. I connected the line and it started right up.

I hate it when i over look little things like that but im happy it is all fixed.

Re: Car doesn't want to start...

That prevented it from even sputtering? Crazy stuff.

I will have to double check my lines as well.

I used to drive an 84 T/A, loved that car.

Until the frame cracked, again.

Then the tranny went out. :P
