What kind of cam do i need??Help pls...
Hey I have a '85 Trans Am 5.0 with a '78 Camaro's 350 Small Block bored .30 over in it.I have high rise intake,600 Holley Carb,Headers and stock cams,700r4 transmission. I want to put some kind of cam in it so that i can get that crazy lope on my car. I love the sound when i have the aftermarket cams as well as the perfomance it gives out. Looking at all the mods,
1.)What kind of cams would actually give me a good lope??
2.)Would putting cams kill my gas mileage, stay the same or increase it??
Thanks,
David

That motor is pretty low compression... you'll need new cylinder heads probably to take advantage of a big cam or that car will be slower than molasses flowing uphill and about as fun as that too.
Cam will involve choices on intake, (single vs dual plane), how fast you want to spin the motor, new valve springs, and making sure your cylinder heads can handle the lift your new cam will have.
You need to do some research and find out what you need and what you want out of it. That sound is the sound of an engine misfiring and running like crap at low RPMs, you're trading off practicality for the sake of sound, so just be aware that's what you're doing.
