Performance chips do they work?
I have always wanted to add more horsepower to my car but have not wanted to spend much money and wanted it to be something that I could easily remove if I sell it one day (which probably wont happen). Then I came upon this http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com...rformance-Chip I was curious if these actually work. Also I was wondering if they can screw your car up. Does anyone have any answers to these quetions?

Re: Performance chips do they work?
ok.. yes they do work but it works in conjunction with whatever you have in ur car for example if you have headers a mild cam exhaust u need a performance chip in order to get the most out of your performance parts, one thing alone doesn't add that much hp to ur car, also u need to use 91 octane gas or equivalent in ur state.

Re: Performance chips do they work?
Do you have to use the high octane gas or will it still work on regular unleaded but not as well. As far as I know my car has no aftermarket parts and I cant afford to use high octane gas.

Re: Performance chips do they work?
it runs shitty without it, with the ones i've used u need the high octane... at least I have seen a difference when using a lower octane

How much horsepower would it add if I used 87 gas. And how much would it add if i used 91 gas. Thanks

Do a search , most will say all they do is lighten your wallet.
None of the off the shelf chips do anything for the cost

Re: Performance chips do they work?
They work ok for a car with some bolt-on parts, but you have to wonder how much power comes from the octane increase. All they really do is modify the ignition tables which is why you need the extra octane, to ward off detonation from the increased timing.

Which is why for the $$ you are better off getting a custom mail order tune tailored to your car; not a one size fits all chip

Re: Performance chips do they work?
So it sounds like most of you are saying it is better to save the money up for something else like a cold air intake or some other bolt on parts then.

Re: Performance chips do they work?
Lol or exhaust - headers back. CAIs are garbage for our car unless you make it yourself. The stock camaro intake tube is one of the least restrictive parts compared to exh manifolds, heads, etc etc. Headers you'll notice a difference in the seat of your pants.

Re: Performance chips do they work?
'87IROCZOWNER69 u misunderstood the cold ar intake part i was just using it as an example of parts working together, but yea its hard to get noticeable power increase without putting money and bolt on parts in our cars.

So everyone agrees I should save the money for some headers and a full exhaust system then.

Re: Performance chips do they work?
Yep. Read around these forums and find your ideal header size. When swapping them, you'll immediately notice a difference between these iron exhaust manifolds and whatever header set you buy. The ports, the interior dimensions, the weight.

Hooker 2055s are good, come with a nice ypipe as well. Or Dyno Dons from Top Down Solutions too. Just use the search bar man

What would one of you recommend for my 87 IROC 5.7l 350?

Re: Performance chips do they work?
All headers for thirdgens fit both 305 and 350 engines, 82 to 92. Like someone recommended above, the hooker 2055's are great (one of the best shorty header kits). If you don't mind extra work, you could also go super-comp long tubes (hooker 2210s) which is the direction I'm currently traveling. Use search bar.
