Intermittent Start - Runs rough
Intermittent Start - Runs rough
Hey guys, I have an 85 IROC-Z with the 305 tpi... other stuff is done to it, but it's not worth getting into it all.. This problem I'm having has to be a simple issue, but I can't figure it out for the life of me... The car will start sometimes and not other times. It seems to be really humid out when it starts usually... I checked, I have fuel, and good spark... yes my plugs are all correct and the timing is at 6 degrees atdc before the computer advance (which is what is was while it used to run great for years...) it has a remanufactured computer in it with a supposed "custom burned chip" since the cam, engine, etc was all changed (but used to run great..) It doesn't seem to TRY to start at all... No puffs, hesitations or anything while cranking... I checked the plugs a hundred times, they're always wet (gasoline) and carbon fouled after trying to start it or successfully starting it for several seconds (and then it dies again, or runs on what sounds like 6 cylinders)... I do not have any rounded off lobes on the cam, i have good oil pressure, my lifters are all good, etc... I'm thinking that it seems to be either computer/sensor or distributor related since I just installed a new accel hei distributor... But who knows, I've been messing with this problem now for YEARS and nobody has ever had a good suggestion for what I should check.. Unfortunately, I don't have a scan tool handy, or I'd data-log it and try to see what the sensors are doing... Also, I noticed that my oxygen sensor wire is soldered together at the one point.. I don't think that's an issue though since it hasn't even reached closed loop yet when starting it.. Is there any other way other than me taking it to somebody and spending possibly hundreds/thousands of dollars??? Any suggestions/tips, please let me know... Thanks...

Mine did something similar. I started pulling injector wires 1 at a time and trying to crank again. I found out 1 bad injector will kill the whole side or bank. You can OHM them if you have a voltmeter and know how to use it as well.
