No Power Between 4000 and 5000

Someoe please help me!!!! i recently bought my 1987 Camaro Iroc-Z28. The guy i bought it from told me it had a completely rebuilt 350 with a mild cam and dart heads. When i test drove it, the car was amazing not a single problem. I picked it up a couple of weeks later and it didn't seem the same. Now it seems like the timing is high. i mean it spits and spudders between 4000 - 5000 rpms. i tried to adjust the timing and all i got was backfire and popping. So what do i do to get my beast back???? help me please o and when it gets to 4000 rpms the valves rattle. Sorry if it helps i am recently converted to chevy i use to be a ford guy

Does the car start to stumble at higher RPM?
Does your tach jump around like its a misfire?

Re: No Power Between 4000 and 5000

Call the guy u got it from, maybe it's something that happened before. Weird it doesn't do it in first. Makes u think it could have something to do with the vss signal. I had speedo problems when I had my tpi engine (lack of proper vss signal) it would spit and sputter intermittently as the signal cut in and out. The computer needs that signal at all times to run right.

Re: No Power Between 4000 and 5000

Mine had a similar problem
check all your ignition parts.. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, test your coil and the pickup in the distributer
Clean all the connections going to the module and apply a little die electric grease to the terminals on the connecters (even if they dont look dirty.. clean and grease every connection)
Mine was the connection between the pickup coil and the module

It worked wonders for me
Good luck!
