STALLING...WHY? Help!

I recently changed the PCV valve, coolant and oil on my 1985 Iroc, 305 TPI, auto trans, ran fine before, now it's stalling when I come to a stop??? Runs well, now it's just stalling, no warning, no missing, no rough engine, just stalls? Any ideas?

Re: STALLING...WHY? Help!

stalls as in it dies or it jerks around and kills itself? assuming you did the oil correctly theres no reason for it to just start stalling, the pcv and coolant have no effect either, id go through and check the timing, get it to spec, check your cap/rotor, plugs and wires, also go through and reset minimum air/IAC/TPS and all that fun stuff, just do a full tune up on it and hopefully it will correct itself

Re: STALLING...WHY? Help!

It doesn't jerk or act up, just dies. I didn't think any of the work done could cause it either, but it didn't start doing this until on the way home from the shop. I'm thinking I bumped a vacume hose/ knocked one off or something. Gotta get in there and check around I guess. Tune up is good idea too. Odd thing is it runs really smooth and strong...then dies when I come to a stop? Then starts right back up, runs strong, then dies when I come to another stop?

Re: STALLING...WHY? Help!

Check your IAC... if it were to stay closed, your car wouldn't idle but would run fine with throttle input.

Like I said full tune up, ignition tps/iac reset minimum air all that fun stuff, my tbi would do the same thing, I did an ignition tune up and I haven't had a problem since

Re: STALLING...WHY? Help!

If the IAC stayed closed it wouldn't idle at all would it? Cause when I start the car it idles fine, when I drive it and come to a stop it dies. Could the IAC act both ways if bad?

Re: STALLING...WHY? Help!

ok, guess I misunderstood your original post, although if your IAC was working but a bit off it might start and idle fine while your car is in open loop with the higher idle, but then come down too far in closed loop. Will your car idle indefinitely once it's started, or have you not sat long enough to get into closed loop?
