A/C Compatibiltiy
Anybody know what years engines have swappable air conditioning systems? I am 95% sure that V-belt and serpentine systems are completely incompatible, but what about V6 and V8 systems? Are the mountain brackets different? Any help would be great!

Re: A/C Compatibiltiy
V-belt systems were all on the driver side as far as I know, serp systems were all pass side. The compressors used were different as well. Serp systems started in 1988 with the switch from carb to TBI as far as I know - so you can go to autozone.com and look at the compressor for a 1986 car and then look at one for a 1990 car and see the differences. I highly doubt a serp compressor will bolt up to a non-serp car and visa versa. I would think the only way to use one over another would be to swap out the entire bracket system - then you'd have to change water pump etc as well.

Anybody know if the AC mounting brackets are the same between V8 and V6 cars? I know they bolt to the head on both.
