I have lost spark, need help!

I have a stock all original 85 Z-28 LG4 carbed with Old style HEI DIST. I was driving doing about 70 I accelerated for about a second then the motor shut off just like you turned off the key, but all gauges and electronics stayed on. After pulling over I tried to restart, it tried and sputtered a bit didn't start. Then stopped even even trying to fire, I checked my spark plug to see if I flooded it. Plug looked good, so I checked for spark against a ground wire to see if the plug was fouled, no spark. Then I thought I better check the the rest of the ignition system, so I stuck a screwdriver in the plug wire and grounded still no spark. What should I start with?? I can get a new ACCEL dist for $120 from autodorks but would hate to waste the money if it's something else. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue, and what you did to repair. Trying to figure out what could just shut off like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the best way to check it? It looks new wires are good. Just kinda confused on how it can just shut off like that. I thought coils start getting weaker then cause misses, then may go completely out.

take the coil off and take it in to your local auto parts store, they can probably test it. and while your in there take your ICM (ignition control module). and make sure they test the ICM multiple times, 4 or 5 times at least. if both of those check out ok, then its probably your pick-up coil. to get to the pick-up coil you have to pull the dist.
