1984 Firebird, fuel filter issue

I got a 1984 Firebird, V8 5.0L Automatic.

This morning I dont know why but while I was letting my car warm up I thought to look under the hood, as I did I noticed that the Fuel Filter was 100% full and a drop here and there would come out from either the filter it's self or the hose connected to it!

Only issue is mine is right above my engine block, so gas dripping there...prob not the best thing!

Now, I was just going to replace the filter today but when I think more in to it...well it dont make sence why it's full of fuel! Could there be another issue and maybe nothing wrong with the filter at all?

If anyone has an idea please explain in detail how to test for that issue, I might just change out the filter alone sinces it prob old anyhow but what else would cause this fuel to fill up?

Thanks

Greg

Fuel In The Fuel Filter?!?! What’s Next? Oil In The Oil Filter??

A fuel filter is supposed to be full of fuel, otherwise air bubbles would cause fuel starvation.

Right but I have only ever seen these glass cylinders with a little fuel going through them, this thing is 100% full and it dont seem right, on top of this I am leaking a little fuel from it, at the same time when ever I start my car it always stalls unless I mash the gas pedal in time, is the fuel filter norm to be competly full?

How do you mean it dont sound right? If you mean the location I agree, because when I bought the car it was like that a friend said I should get a longer hose and get it the F away from the block.

Obviously you need to replace the leaking filter.

If it’s the type of filter that traps an air bubble, a leak can cause the air to be pushed out of the way, then fuel gets pushed out.

Replace it ASAP.

Yea mine has the carb filter and a after market filter which I just went out and pruchased both this morning, so Sat morning when I wake up im prob just gonna disco them and replace and see if it helps my other issues of stalling once the engine turns.
