Re: Car wont start
Have your checked your positive 12v cable that goes from your battery to your starter
I had a few encounter like your and it was that wire that wasnt hooker up tight

Re: Car wont start
Does your car have headers, if so your starter is maybe getting HEAT SOAKED. i have a problem when i drive for 15 + minutues, shut it off, and can't start it for about 5 minutes. If i drive for a couple of minutes it's fine. Seems like i have a dead battery, fuel pump primes, lights work, just no crank. wait a bit and she fires right up. So what i am going to do is get an LT1 starter (smaller and better in high heat) and thermal wrap it. My headers get extremely HOT and the starter is right beside them. Could also be your Battery cable getting to hot. Do a search of "HEAT SOAK STARTER" and go from there.

Re: Car wont start
Not sure why everyone runs out and buys a starter without diagnosing the problem first - starters rarely go bad anymore (not like the 1970's) - that's why there aren't local starter/alternator shops anymore these days.

Re: Car wont start
I had replaced a starter on another '87 i owned, at a fairly low mileage. This starter, starts the car everytime it is cool. But if it has been ran for awhile (city driving) it will not start, for a few minutes. May be it's not heat soaked but a little bit of insulation is a cheap and easy way of helping to diagnose the problem. I have searched and read about this, since the problem happened to me, and alot of people were pulling their hair out diagnosing the problem (fuel pump, filter, Coolant temp sens etc.) and then people were saying that sheilding the heat from their starter or getting a mini starter solved the problem permanently.

Re: Car wont start
i tried starting the car again and still nothing its like not having a battery in there at all iv already checked the fuse box so im guessing its a wire from the batter that goes to the starter
Re: Car wont start
So my car has been doing the same thing and i saw on the website for advance auto they sell heat shields. They have 2 different kinds, one for the whole starter and one for the starter solenoid. Is the problem when the starter gets hot or just the solenoid? Thanks for any help
