What is this part (84 L69 w/bad pic)
Searched hi and low and I cannot find a name or specific function of this exhaust part.
It's from an 84 Camaro with an L69 and 5-speed manual, engine Vin G. It resides in the exhaust just downstream of the passenger exhaust manifold and my best guess is it is some sort of vacuum actuated butterfly valve.
Even just a name would be enormously helpful. It is hard to search for info when you don't know the name of the part. If you know how/why it works and willing to share that info, that would be even better.
Pic is there, but not very good. Hard to take a pic of a part that is elbow-deep in the engine bay.

Its the early fuel evaporation vacuum servo/valve. Preheats the intake with exhaust gasses when its cold.

Also known as the EFE valve (a search will provide a ton of info). If it's still functioning, I'd be surprised--as it doesn't appear to have a vacuum line to it. Here's a diagram that may be helpful:

The TVS by the way is the thermal vacuum switch.

It was not used on the FI cars and they had a donut spacer in its place. The spacer is a good option if/when removing this infernal device.

Awesome. Thanks guys.
Trying to figure out my lack of ability to idle when cold (completely custom megasquirt fuel delivery system). That vacuum diagram may actually hold the clue. Too bad it wasn't under my hood where I assume it should be
