Need help with picking heads???

I am a old school guy,so the newer engines are not what I am familiar with. I have a 55 chevy, with a .60 over 283. It has been built to a dz 302 engine spec. The heads are to the point of being non usable. So the question is alot of people are telling me to go with late 80's 4 barrel 305 heads with 55cc chambers and the 1.8 int 1.5 exh valves. The question is is the 601 head the best head for the small c.i.d. I am running?

350 vortec heads are much better then any stock castings, they have fast burn chambers & excellent midlift flow, which means the peak air flows occurs at the opening & closing of the valves. You'll need a vortec intake for those heads. I think the heads measure at 64 cc.
302 chevvys have 4" bores so any head for a 350 should clear.

I would second that thought. Many members on these boards have done well with them. do a search for the 416 head. I even own a pair, ported with new springs and valves. Never used them though.

Another option - 305 ci "059" Vortec heads. They're not as spectacular as the L31 Vortecs, but many have done well with them.
Here's some info:

Sheik, pick up a pair of Vette heads 113 casting, they are58cc chambers, if your capable of porting have at it they will flow as good as the vortec"" and you wont need a vortec manifold, they will work with that 4" bore, Terry
