idling issues (HELP!)
idling issues (HELP!)
Hello everyone,
I have an 88 GTA 350 TPI that is mostly stock (cat back exhaust, 160 degree thermostat and k and n air filter added) and when ever I try to start the car for the first time of day or after it has sit for a little while, the car dies within seconds. After I start the car 3-4 times it will eventually begin to run and be able to be driven.
Also, once I am driving the car it over revs a little at idle or while cruising unless i qucikly tap the gas pedal (touch the gas for .3 seconds, almost slapping the pedal), in which case the idling then drops to ok levels.
The last issue is that my acceleration has diminisged, when I floor it from a stand still the there is almost a delay for all the power to kick in, when I floor it from a rolling stand still like 2-5 mph the car quickly reacts and the wheels will spin.
Anyone know what might be the problem here?
-there is no check engine light on
-fluids have been changed
-all service is up to date (altinator, battery, auto trans mission fluid, diff fluid, plugs, wires, cap, pcv valve, cat, air filter, radiator, thermostats, o2censor have all been replaced in the five years i have owned the car.

Re: idling issues (HELP!)
Id say it could be IACV.. Also, check the EGR, make sure the diaphram on the back is moving.
Not sure how true this is, but maybe a good thing to keep in mind. Ive heard that over time, the oil in K&N's gets sucked into the TB, and can clog up the IACV. So it may be a good idea to spray TB cleaner on the TB and the IACV to clean them and see if it helps any.
Also, sine its simple to do, check for vacuum leaks and the TPS. Testing the both of those should take <5min.

What the flooding means? Im not sure what you mean lol
The TPS is the sensor on the left side of the throttle body, look up on youtube how to check it. Theres a guy with a TA like yours showing you how to check it. Its very easy.
The IACV is in/under the Throttle body. To check it there are threads on here that will help, and im sure youtube will have a video or two up.
