400 stroker rebuild
For my first rebuild I asked the salvage yard for a carbed 350 but after taking most of it apart my mechanic said it had a 400 flywheel and balancer but the numbers on the block said it was a 350. Thus he said it was a "backyard" 400 stroker that one of the previous owners had worked on. Being a novice, I'm not entirely sure what that means for the components, like if the pistons are still the same size as they would have been originally. I need to know because if I get a rebuild kit everything needs to fit. Furthermore, I'm planning on replacing the heads and getting low-compression pistons to prep it for turbo application and those obviously need to fit as well. I am not sure what all was done to the engine when it was made into a stroker and so I am not sure whether to buy 350 or 400 parts or what.
Yeah I thought it would be a 383 too... that's one reason I'm so confused. But the guy who said it was 400 generally knows what he is talking about, so I have no clue.
