Starting/stalling problems

Starting/stalling problems

The car runs great except for a few problems that are very annoying.
Here's are the symptoms on different attempts. 1)I go to start the car and it starts right up. 2)I go to start the car and I can turn the key all the way into the starting position and there is a 3 second delay before starting. 3)I go to start the car and nothing happens. I still have radio/CD player/lights/etc.but other than that its dead.I wait a few minutes then it will start. Yesterday I was setting at a light and the car went dead exactly as it would when trying to start it.I pushed it off the road and then waited about five minuets and tried it again and it started.I have run the VATS bypass and there is no security light staying on. I have new rotor and cap with new plugs and wires.This problem has been going on for a while now it just that it has gotten worse.I tested the coil as stated in my Chiltons manual and it is fine.
Any suggestions welcome. Please also read reply #3

I had the ICM tested and it passed. I found that the two wires that go from the ICM into and just below the pick up coil had the covering on the wires cracking and had small parts of the wire showing and have been touching each other and even touching the pick up coil at those spots. I shrink wrapped both wires top to bottom and put it all back together. I don't just want to wait around for it to happen again in order to find out if it worked or not. What I need to know is am I even approaching the problem in the right way. Even a guess at what could be causing the problems listed above.
