305 TPI Questions
305 TPI Questions
I have a 305 TPI engine from a 91 camaro and I would like to add a little extra power. This engine will be going in a 2700# S10 daily driver, so I'm not worried about making a ton of power. My camaro will get the power later, I'm working on the S10 for now because my cavalier work car is on the outs and I'd like to replace it with the S10. Anyway, I was thinking of adding the L98 vette heads and an LT1 Z28 94-97 camshaft and calling it good eough. I already have the engine, and, being a 305, I'm not interested in throwing a heap of money at it. Are there any other suggestions that would help me along from you camaro guys that have fiddled around with the LB9? Any better suggestions (with the exception of buying a 350)? Has anyone done something similar and has an idea of performance numbers? I'd like to get close to around 1HP per 10LBS on the vehicle, so I'm hoping for around 270 HP at the flywheel if possible. Thanks

Re: 305 TPI Questions
Building a 270 FWHP lb9 should be as easy as falling off a bar stool.
Re: 305 TPI Questions
Yeah, I didn't write the question exactly how I wanted it. I figure with heads, cam, and exhaust I could get 300+ pretty easy out of the LB9.
What I meant to say was, does anybody think it's possible to get 270ish with just a cam change and exhaust. If so what cam is recommended. I would prefer real world test results if available.
Anyhow, I'm tearin' through about a gazillion old threads, maybe I'll find something.

Re: 305 TPI Questions
Well, an LB9 w/G92 makes 230 using an L98 cam. So, a slightly hotter cam than that with headers and a cat back should get you close. I'm thinkin' a little port/polish on the heads may not hurt as those are probably the limiting factor.
Re: 305 TPI Questions
Hey, thanks watajob, I'll look into the port and polish. I'd like to try and do that myself, we'll see, I've never attempted it before. My old man has done it before I know, maybe I'll recruit his help. Might as well look into it while I have the heads off for new springs.
