burned out

so i have only had my new firebird for two weeks and the engine gave up on me. Somewhere along the line this tired 2.8 decided it was done. Now im not lookin for a quick fix because this engine has been cobb jobbed together its whole life s far as i can see. so i was curious, anyone know where i can get my hands on a solid running engine for cheap. looking into scrap yards now but any advice would be great

Find a 305. No one wants them.

Re: burned out

I sold my 305 complete top to bottom for $350 and it was in good running condition with 90,000 miles on it. You should be able to find a decent running 305 for cheap like mentioned.

Seems pricey but that all i can see what available in your area. besides that

That one would have to be converted to carbed unless you want to keep the TBI.

Get. A 4.3 from and Astrovan snag the tbi and ecu as well. I would however swp in a v8.

Re: burned out

another question to throw in here is i am looking for mounts and wire kit to do a swap. From my pos v6 to a beautiful 350. Found an engine and can get it installed, just need to get the mounts and kit but am struggling to find them.

Be careful with any 350 you find. Many of them are slower than the slowest stock 305's our cars had.

That just makes it more likely to be 70s garbage. They repaint em and put shiny valvecovers on em and say things like "202 heads!" and "clevite bearings" and so forth, and occasionally to really seal the deal they put an Edelbrock performer intake on it to make you think it's "racey".

Im not saying it's a crap motor, but Im saying dont be suckered into buying some low compression, flat tappet 70s 350 with fresh paint on it. Get cylinder head casting numbers or brand names, that will tell you a LOT about how well the thing is put together. Someone who knows what they're doing will build a 350 around decent heads.

Re: burned out

Don't rush into buying a motor or you could end up very disappointed. That's basically what he's telling you.

Re: burned out

also need a different transmission. your 2.8 bolt pattern doesnt mate to a v8

too bad your very far away, i am pulling my 89 305 tpi / 700r4 85,000 mile motor. im going obd2 so ill be getting rid of whole plug and play swap. in my area you cant unload that much for $350.
