You need to have a roller block, I believe roller started in 87' get some casting numbers off your block first. Also you need to have the little pin on the front of the Lt1 cam ground down first ,for it to work on a tpi motor.

Re: will a lt1 cam work in a pre 88 350?

You can do it, with 5 things:
  1. A set of "retrofit" roller lifters
  2. A factory-roller timing set
  3. A spacer to take up the space the retainer plate would have taken up if you could use one, which you can make by simply grinding the "ears" off of a retainer plate
  4. A cam button, which you will find there aren't any for that setup (the sprocket bolts for the timing set you have to use are MUCH closer together than the old pattern, and the button won't go down in between them) but you can make one if you get a nylon one and whittle it down
  5. A timing cover stiff enough to hold the cam still
You'll find that by the time you buy those 5 things, you've wasted twice as much money as just going to the junkyard and getting a 96-2000 truck short block core.

Just so you can re-use some random stock cam. :barf:

Meaning, this doesn't meet the criteria for being worthwhile (those criteria being, better function and/or less money).

Just because a thing can be done, doesn't automatically make it "A Good Idea".

yeah truck vortec short block and you'll have a 300hp motor. Even with a cam and bolt ons on tpi ,you wouldn't acheive 300hp
